Who is Weed Action Native Habitat Restoration Trust?
You are! Weed Action Native Habitat Restoration Trust (WANHRT) is a community of Whangarei Heads locals who are deeply concerned about what weeds are doing to this special part of the world. Anyone who is is taking action against weeds, big or small is part of this community driven mission.
Our work is managed by a committee of volunteers and our Project Coordinators. While we have recently formed our own trust we continue to work with a network of groups working to protect the peninsula from environmental pests.
Our coordinators and the committee are working to raise awareness about what weeds are doing to our natural landscapes, and what they will do in future unless we take action. We also help provide the advice and resources necessary for people to take action.
Who we work with
Weed Action is about engaging with our community, getting all Whangarei Heads residents involved in weedy work, starting, quite literally, in their own backyards. We also see ourselves as playing a linking role, between all of the groups and agencies already involved in action against weeds out here.
Here are just some of the organisations and agencies we are working with.
- Whangarei Heads Landcare Forum
- Northland Regional Council
- Ngati Hine
- Ngati Wai
- Te Parawhau
- Weedbusters
- Department of Conservation
- Kiwi Coast
- Backyard Kiwi
- Bream Head Conservation Trust
- Whangarei Heads Citizen Association
Funders and Supporters
The weedy work of Weed Action Native Habitat Restoration Trust is possible thanks to the support and cooperation of many people and organisations, who share information, provide practical assistance and/or funding.
Weed Action Native Habitat Restoration Trust is extremely grateful for this support, which allows us to get the message out to local people and to support them with resources for on the ground action.
WANHRT would also like to acknowledge the team at Weedbusters, who generously allowed us to use their photos and website info while we build up our local weedy gallery.
