How to Control:
- Grub out seedlings and small plants. Remove large plants with digger. Compost or leave on site to rot down. Burn or bury flowerheads.
- Weed wipe all year round (200ml glyphosate + 2ml penetrant/1L water).
- Spray (summer-autumn is best) with (150ml haloxyfop (selective) + 50ml crop oil/10L water).
- Spray (summer-autumn is best) dense sites where non-target damage is unlikely with (100ml glyphosate (non-selective) + 20ml penetrant/10L water).
Leave the plants in the ground until the roots have died off. Plants can be cut back and re-growth sprayed to minimise herbicde use.
Establish that the species is not toetoe prior to undertaking control (look for erect seed heads in autumn). Seed banks reinfest bared, burnt and sprayed sites, and grazed plants resprout. Pampas recedes as shade increases, so encourage weed replacement (planting, regeneration) as you carry out control.
Plan for increased fire risk after control. Follow up as needed, but do not reapply herbicide too soon after the initial treatment – wait until the plant actively begins growing again.
Caution: when using any herbicide or pesticide PLEASE READ THE LABEL THOROUGHLY to ensure that all instructions and safety requirements are followed.
